The 2017 theme for World Water Day focused on waste water.
Baringhup Primary School is a little school of fourteen keen Waterwatch students. The Loddon River is at our front door, the perfect environment to study habitat, water quality, flora and fauna of the area! On World Water Day students discussed the need for safe water sources for people in developing countries, carried out Waterwatch science testing water quality, sat under the River Red Gums beside the river listening to river stories, watched and identified the birds which surrounded the river, photographed the river environs for an in school photographic competition, designed and build a boat which was raced in the shallows, paddled.
Students immersed themselves into their local river environment. Here are a few of their reflections on World Water Day.
On Tuesday the 22nd of March we went for a stroll down to the river. As we walked into the section where we were keeping our bags I felt as if I was in Heaven. I was surrounded with my beautiful Nature. It had beautiful Trees and gardens, amazing animals all over the place, friends and family, and the thing that keeps it still running, The River. I was also looking forward to learning about Earth’s wonderful creation but also about the teacher and children teamwork that would go on today. The boys {Tate & Blayne} spotted a Rufous Night Heron. And we also looked at how clean the water was, it was, absolutely marvellous. Near the end of this spectacular journey we all went down to the Caravan Park & made some boats using earth’s materials and man-made materials. Then we sailed them till the end of our journey. In the end we rounded it up to friendship, teamwork, a spectacular sighting and lots of fun. Today we were surrounded by the power and the beauty of the River. Chloe D
