Landcare is an incredible organisation with volunteer groups large and small working to protect and enhance nature in every pocket of Australia. Landcare groups are passionate, dedicating their time to projects that make a difference to their local environment. From revegetation to rabbit control, from waterway health to weed management, from soil health to sustainable agriculture, from installing nest boxes to inspiring the next generation . . . and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
With the spotlight on Landcare this week, the main message for you as a River Detective school is that you probably have a Landcare Group near you ! We encourage you to reach out to your local Landcare or Friends Of group and explore opportunities to collaborate.
Landcare groups can often be ideas rich but time/volunteer poor and River Detectives schools can be rich in passion and drive to help the local environment (and filled with young energetic people keen to lend a hand) but may lack the knowledge/skills/equipment to know how and where to start. Teaming up is the perfect solution and a win-win for on-ground action and learning outcomes !
Head to the Victorian Landcare Gateway to search for your nearest group or contact your regional River Detectives coordinator for help to link up.
