There are many environmental and cultural celebration dates throughout the year that tie in seamlessly with the River Detectives program. This is great news as finding ways to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ is gold for time-poor teachers and crowded curriculums.
Take a look at this 2024 calendar to see the many and varied opportunities to embed the River Detectives program. Each event is a link taking you to more information and specific teaching and learning resources.
To support you even further, at the end of each term (yes sorry I’m late with this Term 2 support), I will distribute some inspiration directing you to resources on the River Detectives website that are most relevant to exploring the events coming up that term. This is designed to help you with your planning and save your precious time.
If the advice is not needed/relevant simply file away my email or delete it – there is never any obligation to do more than the basics with the RD program.
Term Two planning inspo:
- World Bee Day May 20; Visit the World Bee Day website for heaps of fun ways to get involved including The Great Bee Morning Tea or by joining the Global Waggle Dance Challenge. Also check out the Wheen Bee Foundation’s Centre For Bee Education website for resources to learn more about pollinators.
- Reconciliation Week May 27 – June 3; this year’s theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will – and must – continue. Explore some of the short, engaging – and most importantly local videos – on our website along with other resources. All videos are Victorian, many will be regional and some may even be specific to your waterway/country, exploring the importance of waterways to Aboriginal culture, the way they have and continue to care for them, and the innovative ways they are working with NRM agencies to manage waterways.
As always we’d love to see photos or work samples of anything you do so flick them through to your regional coordinator !
