We realise the timing is not great but thought you might like to know that there is a funding opportunity currently available for schools to run STEM projects/activities/events during 2025. It opened on November 26 and is due on January 14.
Schools need to have an ICSEA value of 1000 or less to be eligible. The ICSEA value of a school can be checked here.
Take a look at the grant guidelines or a sample application.
This grant could be used to fund an experience to complement your River Detectives involvement:
Are you interested in running a revegetation program, but not sure where to start?
Unsure how to pull together a planting list or how to grow your own native plants?
Want to learn more about our native wildlife and Aboriginal heritage from a Traditional Owner in a fun, interactive way?
Running a revegetation program can be tricky unless you have the right knowledge and skills. Habitat Warriors makes it simple for schools to run their own 6-12 month revegetation program, with lots of on-ground support and useful resources and tips. You can either choose to run your own program independently, or our expert botanists can help out during any stage of the project; from site surveying, to seed collection, to growing seedlings, to planting out, to monitoring afterwards.
If you are keen to apply for this grant to enable a Habitat Warriors project, their staff are happy to help you complete the application. Contact Alana alana@eraus.com.au for assistance.
RMIT’s Litter Trackers program offers services to schools and community groups to better understand the way litter is transported along our waterways. Through GPS technology litter can be mapped to asses how and where it travels and highlight the issue of urban stormwater on our waterways and oceans.
Although the website seems Melbourne-centric, the program can be run anywhere. Get an overview of the program by watching the Litter Trackers presentation that occurred at the 2022 Statewide River Detectives Online Summit or read the slideshow.
Contact aquest.citizenscience@rmit.edu.au to find out more about how the program could work at your school.
Or perhaps you know of another STEM opportunity that could fit the guidelines?
Please reach out to riverdetectives@nccma.vic.gov.au if you require a letter of support from the River Detectives program.
