What can we do to support platypus, blackfish, and other threatened species which depend on our waterways?
This is not a River Detectives event but a broader North Central CMA event being part of the Tullaroop Catchment Restoration Project. As an opportunity for community members to hear first-hand from volunteers and experts about riparian restoration it may interest you as a River Detectives teacher to upskill your own knowledge about riparian restoration.
The word ‘riparian’ refers to the area of land alongside a waterway. Riparian land is valuable in many ways, including as habitat and drought refuges for wildlife. Attendees will learn about actions they can take to help rehabilitate creeks, rivers, and other waterways, and the benefits to people and the environment.
The day will feature a Welcome to Country, site tour, platypus expert guest speaker from EnviroDNA, hands-on waterbug activity, afternoon tea, and information on take-home actions for individuals and Landcare groups.
