Albion Primary School joined the River Detectives Program this year and have the program well and truly up and running. The school is sampling Kororoit Creek which is part of the Werribee Catchment in Melbourne’s west. Kororoit Creek looks so picturesque, that you would think you were out in the country, rather than the middle of Melbourne !
Melbourne Water joined the Grade 5/6 students, on Friday to look at Macroinvertebrates from the Creek. The sample contained about 7 different bug species, including a very healthy sized dragonfly nymph and lots of jumpy shrimps !
Sustainability is embedded at Albion Primary School and the River Detectives Program is shared across all year levels as part of that philosophy. This photo shows the school’s amazing vegetable garden and hen house.
Marita Ryan is the Sustainability Program Leader at Albion Primary and is currently working towards completing the Water Module as part of the Resource Smart Schools Program.
