This update comes to you to assist with Term Two program planning . . . .
Reconciliation Week is an important event on the cultural calendar, this year celebrated May 27 to June 3 with the theme ‘Be Brave – Make Change’. It is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
There will be a plethora of resources available to you as the week nears but in terms of our River Detectives program, this is a great time for students to;
- understand the cultural significance of our waterways and
- learn about how organisations are being brave and finding new ways of learning from Traditional Owners and working closely with them to manage our waterways.
We have collated short, engaging, informative – and most importantly local – videos that may be useful to save you time when planning for Reconciliation Week. All videos are Victorian, many will be regional and some may even be specific to your waterway/country.
- Login to the River Detectives website www.riverdetectives.net.au
- Head to the Resource River Bank tab
- Select the topic of Aboriginal Cultures
- If you wish to filter further you can select your region
- Here you will find videos, picture story books, links to other websites, etc
We highly recommend the ‘Share Our Pride’ website and the ‘Deadly and Proud’ website for students and teachers.
This is an area of our website we continually strive to improve so if you know of local videos we should include, please let us know by commenting.
